About Dryden Aqua
At Dryden Aqua we are Marine Biologists specializing in aquatic environment water quality control. We also manufacture products such as AFM (Active Filter Media, manufactured from reprocessed glass bottles) details from www.AFM.eu.
AFM is used to treat municipal drinking water, so we understand that issues with regards to chemicals present in our drinking water supplies, as well the risks associated with diseases and infection. Indeed from WHO (World Health Organization) 6% of all the diseases in Europe result from drinking water. Indeed nearly half of these infections are due to parasitic organisms called Cryptosporidium. This organism is not killed by chlorine, and it is very resistant to ozone and UV. The only really effective means of dealing with Crypto is to physically remove it from our water supply.
In addition to Cryptosporidiosis, drinking water may also contain Aluminum ( from coagulation chemicals) which may be linked to brain disorders as well as chlorine reaction products such as THM`s ( chloroform) which is carcinogenic. Simply by changing the sand in our municipal drinking water filters over to AFM resolves most of the drinking water quality problems that we experiences in the UK and through-out Europe. However Governments and multinational water companies are slow to change, so we have selected a range of "Point of Entry" & "Point of Use" filtration systems for your house, hotel, office, school, municipal building or factory. The filters are a side-line for Dryden Aqua, and as such we have them available at a very low cost.
The best water is water that has not been contaminated by chemicals, either through the natural geology of the ground aquifer or by the water treatment companies. It is also absolutely essential that the water has not been contaminated by pathogenic organisms. Even bottled water, or designer water can contain harmful chemicals, either from the containers or from chemicals accidentally introduced. The only way of really being safe is to just remove everything from the water, so effectively you get back to a virgin grade supply, or virgin water.
Our "Point of Entry" Ultra filtration system will remove all viable organisms from your water without removing any of the salts and dissolved components. Our "Point of Use" reverse osmosis filters remove effectively everything from your water including dissolved components and salts. Some people argue that you need the salts in you water, while the salts are essential, most of the salts your body requires comes from the food that you eat, not the water.
Other issues of concern
1. Swimming pools.
Swimming is one of the best possible exercises that you can take, and it should be encourage among all age groups. However if the pool is not operated properly then it can be as healthy as chain smoking cigarettes, refer to New Scientist report click here or the European Respiratory Society. If you enter a swimming pool or a leisure centre and you can still smell the chlorine after 2 minutes, we recommend that you do not use the facility. The smell is not caused by chlorine but a chlorine reaction product called Trichloramine. This chemical stings your eyes, and if it stings your eyes it will also be causing lung damage. In the case of young children under 5 years old, trichloramines strips off the protective mucous layer in the lungs and predisposes children to infection or a sensitized reaction so if the child is then subsequently exposed to a chemical, or pollen or dust mites etc, this may elicit an allergic response which can develop into asthma 10 years latter. The infuriating aspect of all this is that we know that it has been happening over the last 30 years (try a Google search on asthma and swimming pools for information) and we know how to solve the problem. Dryden Aqua in Scotland with support from the European Commission under the Life Environment initiative, solved the problem and the solution was simply to replace the sand in swimming pool sand filters with AFM media.
However the UK Health Protection Agencies, Government Depts etc etc; can not recommend that local authorities use AFM in public pools because this will be in breach of State Aid regulations which would give an unfair advantage to Dryden Aqua. The same restrictions do not apply with agencies out-with the UK, so we now have a daft situation that organizations in Germany, Switzerland & Spain are promoting AFM, but in the UK it would almost be against the law to advise local authorities that there is a solution to this problem. I do not know what is happening, however next time you visit a health centre or swimming pool, ask the pool operate the following questions;
